I have been back in Germany from my long journey through Sulawesi since a couple of days. I just want to tell that Tour- Guide Sulawesi Ardhy did a marvellous job! Sulawesi is an island that has many endemic species of animals and birds. For endemic animals, Sulawesi has 2 types of babirusa, namely the Sulawesi Babirusa (Babirusa Celebensis and Babirusa Togean (Babyrousa Togeanensis), 8 types of black monkeys (Macaque Nigra, Macaque Nigrescens, Macaque Hecky, Macaque Togean, Macaque Tongkeana, Macaque Maura, Macaque Ochreata, Macaque Brunnescens). Sulawesi also has 12 types of Tarsier ( T.Spectral Gurskyae, T.Supriatnai, T.Niemitzi, T.Wallacei, T.Tumpara, T.Lariang, T.Pelengensis, T.Pumilus, T.Dentatus, T.Sangirensis, T.Fuscus , T.Tarsier), 2 types of Anoa ( Dwarf buffalo), 2 types of Sulawesi bear, Sulawesi civet and white-tailed rat. Sulawesi also is one of the areas that has the most endemic birds in Indonesia. There are 421 bird species that can be seen and observed on the island of Sulawesi, 100 species of which are endemic birds that only live and can be found on the island of Sulawesi. Endemic and beautiful birds that can be observed include Sulawesi Dwarf Kingfisher, Knobbed Horbill, Sahul Pitta, Sulawesi Babbler, Sulawesi Malkoha, Grey-sided Flowerpecker, Sulawesi Dwarf Hornbill, Sulawesi Scops Owl, Togian Boobook, White-faced Cuckoo Dove, Sulawesi Ground Dove and Oberholser’s Fruit Dove. Sulawesi is the eleventh largest island in the world and covers an area of 174,600 km2. The central part of the island is mountainous with a rough surface so that the peninsulas of Sulawesi are basically far from each other and easier to reach by sea than by road. There are three bays that divide the peninsulas of Sulawesi, from north to south, namely Tomini, Tolo, and Bone Bays. The three separate the Minahasa Peninsula or the North Peninsula, the East Peninsula, the Southeast Peninsula, and the South Peninsula. The Makassar Strait runs along the west side of the island. Sulawesi is surrounded by Borneo to the west, the Philippines to the north, Maluku to the east, and Flores and Timor to the south.
